NWWC COACHING AND COURSES   

 TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • GENERAL CONDITIONS OF USE

    • All courses are staffed by appropriately qualified coaches / instructors. The NWWC has a pro-active approach to staff training. Occasionally, trainee coaches / instructors may be involved in sessions, however they will be under the supervision of a qualified coach / instructors at all times.
    • Whilst every reasonable attempt will be made to deliver courses, the NWWC reserves the right to cancel or modify the courses due to safety considerations and factors beyond our control.
    • As part of the continual review of safety and associated considerations, the conditions of booking are subject to change, clarification and modification at any time. Only the Centre Director or their appointed deputy is empowered to vary or waive any of the conditions of booking. Such decisions are totally at the discretion of the Director or their appointed deputy.
    • All persons participating will have Canoe Wales day membership except for current UK Paddlesport Governing Body members 

  • LIABILITY AND INSURANCE

    • Whitewater kayaking, safety training and rafting are potentially dangerous activities. All participants must be aware of this and accept the risks associated with these activities.
    • Whilst the NWWC has an excellent safety record, responsibility for death, injury or illness arising from coaching or guide training and associated activities can only be accepted if caused by negligence on the part of the NWWC, its servants or agents.
    • The NWWC is under no liability whatsoever in respect of loss or damage to property, however caused, whilst at the NWWC, or on a course arranged by the centre at another location.
    • The NWWC holds public liability cover

  • HEALTH AND SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

    • People with health conditions or impairments which may affect their enjoyment and participation in a coaching session or course are asked to contact the centre at the time of booking to ensure that any additional requirements can be met. We always try to avoid making assumptions, as needs are individual, so please do be specific. We recommend that you contact your medical practitioner for advice if you are at all unsure of the suitability of undertaking a strenuous physical activity. Relevant medical conditions / injuries should always be disclosed to the Centre. 
    • All coaching /course participants must be confident swimming in open water (defined as 25 metres).
    • Spectacles can be a hazard to you whilst participating in sessions. You are strongly recommended not to wear spectacles of any kind. If you choose to wear spectacles you must accept that injury may occur and accept full responsibility for any such injury. Participants may wear contact lenses, accepting that there is a risk of losing one or both. 
    • Coaching / course participants will not be permitted to consume alcohol or drugs prior to or during courses. The centre staff reserve the right to refuse participation to anyone considered to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
    • If a participant acts in any such manner as to endanger him/herself, any other NWWC user or staff, they may be asked to leave the session. 
    • The Course Director may require any participant to leave the course if that person is not of a suitable standard to be on that course.
    • Everyone should be treated with respect and should give respect to others. You should feel safe to enjoy your session or course. If you are worried about how you, or someone else is being treated, please talk to reception or NWWC management. Whilst taking part in an activity, participants may be photographed by CW, the NWWC or their approved agents. These images may be used for promotion by CW. If this is not acceptable please contact the NWWC before your visit. We will take all possible steps to ensure such images are used solely for the purpose they are intended. If you become aware that these images are being used inappropriately you should inform the NWWC immediately.

  • WATER LEVELS

    • Coaching and courses can only take place at the NWWC when there is a suitable water release from Llyn Celyn Reservoir or suitable levels at alternative locations.
    • There is always the possibility of water being turned off at short notice e.g. in the interest of flood defence or following a mechanical breakdown at the dam. Coaching / course participants must therefore check on the most up-to-date information regarding water releases before travelling. This can be done by checking the website - www.nationalwhitewatercentre.co.uk/water-information.

  • BOOKINGS AND CANCELLATIONS

    All coaching / courses must be paid for in full at time of booking.


    Refunds or transfers can be made in the event of failure to deliver any session due to unsuitable water levels. No refunds will be offered which arise from circumstances beyond our control, other than this. Circumstances beyond the control of NWWC are defined as: natural disasters, failure of public or private transport, civil commotion, riots or terrorism, failure of telecommunications networks, failure of public/private support infrastructure.


    The NWWC will not accept any liability for any other expenditures or costs incurred by prospective participants.


    Should you need to cancel your booking for any reason the following scale of charges and terms will apply.

    More than 28 days before your planned session - 25% cancellation fee or free transfer

    Between 7 and 28 days before your planned session - 50% cancellation fee or 25% transfer fee

    Less than 7 days before your planned session - No refund, no transfer

    Minimum ages and numbers 

    Our minimum age is generally 18, however,

    it is possible to accept someone under 18 on some courses, this would be after discussion with the centre, and on a case-by-case basis. 

    Supervision of any person under 18 

    A parent/guardian (or another adult authorised by the parent/guardian) will be required to sign, on the day, agreeing to the participation and the terms and conditions on behalf anyone under 18. This responsible adult must remain on site and be contactable for the duration of the course. 

    Aside from 1:1 bookings, all our courses have a minimum number of participants needed to run.   A transfer or refund can be made if this minimum is not reached.
